The digital version of Revelations 2 was released per episode with each episode being released weekly. A Season Pass is available where all episodes can be bought at the same time or players can buy the episodes individually. Just like with Telltale games, Episode 1 is required to play the other episodes. Once the final episode was released digitally, the retail version was released in stores. The retail version includes all episodes along with extra content that was released alongside the final episode. Two bonus episodes were released at the same time as the final episode. Every piece of extra content is available both digitally and with the physical copy of the game.
Revelations 2 plays much like the original Resident Evil: Revelations but it has added features such as Resident Evil 6's dash and a new dodge mechanic. Players can hold down a button to run faster than the usual jogging pace. There is a button dedicated to dodging allowing each character to dodge in the direction that a player holds while pressing the dodge button. Each main character has a partner character and you can switch between both characters. Claire has Moira as a partner and Barry has Natalia as a partner.
Claire and Barry play around the same. They both get access to their own gun weapons that can be switched between by using the directional pad and they both have different melee attacks that you can use while pressing the melee button. Barry has a flashlight but Claire never gets her own flashlight. Moira illuminates areas with her flashlight for Claire and she can also attack and pry open doors with her crowbar and she can open military boxes. Moira can also find hidden items by shining her flashlight and watching for a sparkle. Once a sparkle is found, Moira can shine her high beam directly at the item to reveal its location. The high beam can also be used to stun Afflicted enemies and melt explosive cysts that are knocked off the heads of enemies. Natalia can attack with bricks that she finds in the environment (strike or toss a brick) and she can use sub-weapons (explosive bottles, etc). Much like Moira, Natalia can find items, but she can spot them by simply looking in the direction and pointing at the sparkle to reveal its location. Natalia can also see the location of enemies through walls - by default, a yellow haze will signal an enemy that has not been alerted and a red haze signals an enemy that has been alerted. Natalia is a key asset to Barry when fighting certain enemies such as the Revenant or Glasp since she can see the Oroborous core through the flesh of Revenants and she can see the invisible Glasp - switching back and forth between her and Barry during combat with these types of enemies is often needed while fighting them.
