February 27, 2008 - Following the worldwide success of Resident Evil 4, Capcom will be giving Wii owners a chance to sample another entry in the series, Resident Evil 0. The latest issue of Famitsu reports that a port of the game is on the way and will be released to Japan this summer. International releases will presumably follow.

Expectedly, Capcom is giving the game full Wiimote controls. While not providing official details, the magazine speculates that you'll now be able to play with one hand, suggesting that Capcom may be using the Wiimote to make RE0 into a point and click adventure of some sort. The magazine also notes that the Wii version of RE4 supported the Classic Controller, so perhaps we can look forward to standard controls as well.

In case you're unfamiliar, RE0 was originally released for the GameCube as the fifth entry in the classic zombie franchise, following Resident Evil, RE2 and RE3 for the PlayStation, and Code Veronica for the Dreamcast and PS2. Players switch off between Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen as they experience the events leading up to part one of the series.

CAPCOM Co., Ltd. (Osaka, Japan -- representative director and president: Haruhiro Tsujimoto; hereinafter "CAPCOM") and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan Co., Ltd. (Tokyo Japan -- representative director and president: Ken Munekata; hereinafter "SPEJ") have announced coproduction of "BIOHAZARD: Degeneration," the first full-length CG animation feature based upon the BIOHAZARD series of games and movies.

　BIOHAZARD, began as a hit international video game franchise created by CAPCOM, then made its debut on the silver screen as the live-action film RESIDENT EVIL (the international film title for BIOHAZARD), distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures Entertainment. RESIDENT EVIL is the first trilogy of live-action movies to have come from a video game franchise. CAPCOM and Sony Picture's Japanese subsidiary SPEJ have teamed up to give birth to a CG-animated BIOHAZARD with groundbreaking visual effects and a brand-new story line.

　Since its initial release in 1996, the BIOHAZARD series of games has established the "survival horror" genre and has shipped over a 33 million units worldwide, continuing to captivate its fans as a powerful property. CAPCOM will continue to release new games within the franchise, such as "BIOHAZARD: Umbrella Chronicles" and "BIOHAZARD 5"

　The films "RESIDENT EVIL" and "RESIDENT EVIL 2: APOCALYPSE" have each grossed more than US$ 100 million at the Box Office internationally. "RESIDENT EVIL 3" aka "BIOHAZARD 3" (debuting throughout Japan on November 3) has been the biggest hit of the series in the US to date, adding to the high performance and public support for this franchise.

The full CG animation feature "BIOHAZARD: Degeneration" is currently in production, with plans for a terrifying release in 2008.

Flailing Zombies Meet Motion-Sensitive Controls in New Resident Evil Game.

TOKYO — September 20, 2007; Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today showcased Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii home video game system from Nintendo at Tokyo Game Show 2007. The game will include a two-player co-op mode and support for the Wii Zapper for even more intense light-gun style shooting action. Resident Evil is the highest selling Capcom series with more than 30 million games sold worldwide. Rated M for Mature by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB), Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles will be available on November 13 at a suggested retail price of $49.95.

“Resident Evil has become one of the premier franchises in the games industry, with more than 30 million RE games sold around the world,” said Jack Symon, director, product marketing, Capcom Entertainment. “The innovative controller functionality of the Wii will allow us to design innovative, original game play never before seen in a Resident Evil game. With The Umbrella Chronicles, we’re adapting Resident Evil to the innovations of the Wii.”

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles is a brand new game in the Resident Evil franchise, with familiar locales from the entire series, created specifically for the unique characteristics of the Wii console. This action/shooter hybrid reveals the back story behind the fall of the Umbrella Corporation by exploring locations from Resident Evil 0, 1, 2 and 3 as well as new never-before-seen locations, such as Umbrella’s stronghold. Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles combines first-person, light-gun style combat with interactive pathways, multiple weapons and new enemies to create an entirely new Resident Evil experience that could only be delivered on the Wii.
